When it comes to inspiration from the world of music, this is my absolute favorite.
Her name is Gianna Nannini and her music has helped me through good and bad for many, many years. Two days ago she was singing in the greek theatre in Taormina. The place was filled to the last seat and the concert was fabolous!
I fell in love with my zoom lence, could you believe I was on the second last row of the theatre?? Almost as far away from the scene that is possible!

The video is mine too, and it shows one of her biggest hits, "bello e impossibile". If you watch it you will see how far away from the stage I was.
A warning is in place though... There is a risk you will feel seasick. The floor I was standing on was moving from all people dancing, and it is really difficult to keep the videocamera still when using a lot of zoom....

So why is there a statue of a greek goddess in Giardini Naxos?
Because Giardini Naxos was the first greek colony in Sicily and the first ones to arrive landed right on this spot where the statue is today.

Today we went to Gole Alcantara (the alcantara gorges or canyon) not far from here. We wanted to rent vaders and go in in the gorge (behind the red and white striped plastic ribbons), but it was closed for tecnical controls...
Since vacation ends for most italians this weekend I was a bit surprised there was so much people there. Maybe I wouldnt have gone in to the water with my camera even if it was open... Kids playing in the water and cameras is usually not a good combination :o)

Well, well... as it is not far I can go back later, when all tourists are gone...

This cutie was only a couple of hours old when this picture was taken. The evening before, the neighbour horse got her baby, and this one seemed to be close too, so we waited for a couple of hours, but around midnight we gave up and went home. When the owner checked on the horses early in the morning he was already born.

Yesterday we went to a medieval evening in Calatabiano. There was a lot to see and a lot of food to taste. Except for the royal court, the jokers and the guards, there were also a lot of workshops like this one, where one could have a letter written in old style letters.

The other night we went to one of those concerts on the beach to listen to the band Malanova. They play traditional, sicilian music, with a modern tuoch. I liked the music a lot. They sing about the life in the old days, about difficult times, and ofcourse, about mafia... In one corner of the stage they placed this man, dressed as mafiosos are usually pictured, with a rifle on his shoulder. He just stood there the hole evening.

This is one of the really big washingmachines my sister in law and her husband has in their industrial laundry. They do the laundry for restaurants and hotels, and are in the middle of their high season right now.

We have a lot of aubergine right now, so the other day we made a lot of what my mother in law calls "polpette di melanzane". Here is how to make them:

Slice the aubergine and put salt on them for a couple of hours to drain out some of the water (I use more or less the same amount of salt as on a steak going on the bbq).

Rinse them and dry them, then fry them on one side in oil (not olive oil, it doesnt do well with the heat needed).

Blend 5 parts of parmesan cheese, 1 part of bread crumbs (very small), eggs and basil. (When lifting the spoon it has to stay on the spoon, quite firm)

Spread it on the fried side of the aubergine and add another slice on top, with the fried side down. Fry on both sides until the aubergine has a nice color and dinner is ready.

This is Catherina, my father in law´s dearest companion. Where ever he goes, goes Catherina.
When my father in law stopped working here in the lemon farm and moved to an apartment Catherina stayed here. She was born here and is used to walk around the property as she like.
We do not know her exact age, but I guess she is about 12-13 years old.
She is a real diva, and does not like to have her picture taken, she turns around as soon as she see the camera!
